INTERNET 101 Learn the things you need to know to create a website that gets high search engine ranking and the qualified visitors you want. The first thing to do is go to a search engine and search on something. Alta Vista is good because it is easy to see the information you will need. • The first line displayed on any of the search engines is the title of your website. • The next paragraph, or few lines displayed, is your search engine description. Both of these things come from metatags. As you can tell from looking at your search - your title and your description need to have relevant terms in them. You should see your search word or search phrase in this text. Consequently, a page that is untitled, will read as such, or "welcome to my site" isn't going to help you with search engines. Make sure that your keywords exist both in metatags, and in text on your page. (Note - words in graphical format do not count!). • Every page should have at least 300 words on it. • Do not use Flash • Do not use doorway pages • Do not use frames • No pages that are only images If you don't make these mistakes you are going to do as well as your site can do. |
